On the International Day of Decent Work….GFBTU issued a flyer on decent work.

On 7th October, on the occasion of International Day of Decent Work, The General Federation of Bahrain Trade Unions has issued a flyer of four pages containing comprehensive information on decent work, aiming at raising awareness on this issue not only among workers, but also among all those concern with the work world, as this concept stands today at the forefront of ILO’s agenda, widely recognized by social partners all over the world but rarely understood by workers, employers and other stakeholders.
The concept of decent work has been used for the first time by ILO former Director-General Mr. Juan Somavia in 1999, and later adopted by UNO as how to measure the objectives of the development in the millennium. Since 2005 the concept of “decent work” has been used as an indicator or as a first goal of the development, thus ILO is totally responsible for the reports that are necessary to measure how far this objective has been achieved. The concept of decent work is based on four strategic objectives which are the following:
1- Creation of new job opportunities.
2- Extension of social protection.
3- Strengthening the social dialogue.
4- Ensuring the respect of rights at work.
As said earlier, the flyer provides comprehensive information under the following themes:
– Decent work
– Concept of decent work
– Who is in charge of decent work scheme?
– Decent work in Arab States.
– Four strategic objectives of decent work
– Sub-contents of decent work.
– Decent work compare to reality at local level.
